- Improve your relationship with the Qur’an.
- Avoid anger! Keep calm and silent.
- Do not lie, swear or backbite.
- Strive to be more disciplined.
- Sincerely ask tawbah from your sins.
- Be patient with everyone.
- Give charity (be it with kind words)
- Be generous with good deeds.
- Show mercy to your neighbours.
You should also try to do these things when it’s not Ramadan.
Sawm develops self-control and helps overcome selfishness, greed, laziness and other faults. It gives a feeling of hunger thirst. This helps us appreciate the good things in life, and also to realise what it is like for many people in the world who are hungry and thirsty all the time. Fasting teaches Muslims to control comfort and luxuries and to focus on Allah. Most Muslims will pray more and frequently study the Qur’an more during the month of Ramadan. Fasting emphasises the equality of all Muslims. Rich or poor, all Muslims will experience the same hunger.
The fourth pillar is Sawm. This is fasting during the Month of Ramadan. Ramadan is the ninth month in the Muslim year. During this month most Muslims won’t eat drink or eat from the beginning of sunrise to the beginning of sunset. They try to behave really good during this month.
