What is Hajj?

The fifth pillar is Hajj. This is a pilgrimage to Mecca. It means “to set out with definite purpose”, and it is the duty of every of every Muslim who can afford it. Every Muslims should go on Hajj once in their lifetime. It is an event that takes place over a period of five days a year in and around the city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia. Muslims from all over the world come to the city and carry out certain ritual actions and visit certain places. Around 2.5 million Muslims go each year.

All Muslims dress equally so that there is no difference between rich and poor. The sense of God’s presence among so many Muslims gathered together is felt, and most Muslim are struck by the feeling of brother/sisterhood- one great family will all differences overcome.
